Packing. I seem to be always packing. Packing a trolley for a short business trip, unpacking afterwards, packing a backpack for a weekend trip, and unpacking again, packing kites and other stuff into Twinky, the van, and for the long term stuff I pack boxes. Since I’ve been living in New York I’ve managed to move after each lease period had ended.
I never renewed a lease for various reasons: too much Harlem, too far away from the office in the middle of Brooklyn, too expensive in the East Village and now the newest: too far away from the new Office in San Francisco!
A job opportunity at the West Coast stopped by; Basti and I raised hands, said ‘Here’ and now we’re packing boxes.
This could even be a form of traveling. It’s not as light weight as backpacking, but it is definitely local, long-term travel. Exploring the world by relocation if you so will. Move to a new country or city, be a newbie for a while, discover the neighborhood and the landscape around the city, search the new favorite coffee place and good lunch places. Remember that walking across the street at a red light is only in New York City a must. Find new friends, settle in and when life get’s too cozy, start over to new adventures.
Now you know why it had been quiet here for two weeks. I’m packing for a big move.
West Coast watch out, we’re coming and we’re bringing Twinky with us.
